Samba! SOU AZUL

Dancer: Solange, Clarice, Hisae, Candy, Hime, Michelle, Yasuko, Romi

SOU AZUL is a Tokyo-based samba group directed and produced by Romi de SOU AZUL.

Romi founded SOU AZUL in 2018, drawing on her experience as a show dancer and carnival performer in Brazil. She handles the planning, direction, and casting of event shows.

In Japan, where samba has developed as a unique culture, the group, centered around dancers with experience on the stage of the Asakusa Samba Carnival (which boasts over 40 years of history), develops expressions based on Brazilian samba.

Furthermore, they view samba not merely as a performance, but from the perspectives of Afro-Brazilian culture, education, and well-being, engaging in lectures, workshops, community activities, practices, and research.

This time, members who resonate with the desire to bring samba nurtured in Japan to Hawaii have come together.

While pursuing authentic Brazilian samba, they express it within the context of Japanese samba trends, embodying the “joy,” “energy,” and “connection” inherent in Brazilian culture.
